I’m back in class! First day of classes was today, and I’m super-pumped.
I’ve got metaphysics with Watkins. This will be the third straight non-summer semester with him, which should be an indication of how much I enjoy his classes. We’re reading a general overview text, and he’s managed to wrangle us a copy of Shoemaker’s as-yet-unpublished new metaphysics book which he guarantees will make our brains leak right out of our head. Sweet!
I’ve alsot got Social Stratification with Dr. Key. She seems smart, but I’m not really familiar with the Sociology department. Her specialization is stratification in education and the workplace. We’re doing a series of very cool books, starting with global policy and running up through the hidden economic costs of being black. This should be a rocking class. (I don’t know if we’ll be covering gender issues, but I suspect they’ll come up at some point.)
More classes tomorrow: meta-philosophy, historical geology, and deviance. I’ll probably try to bust out a book list too.
