Impressive driving, sir!

On the way home from class today, I saw one of the single most impressive pieces of crash-avoidance driving I’ve ever witnessed. I drew a diagram…

The black line is the amazing driver. The blue car is the idiot who failed to look for oncoming traffic before attempting the left turn. The blue car, driven, as I mentioned, by an idiot, saw the oncoming car and simply stopped in the middle of the intersection like a deer frozen in headlights. The oncoming car made an impressive half-second evaluation of the road and dodged to the left, into the oncoming traffic lane (which was temporarily clear), the driver then slid farther left, all the way into the lane, to dodge the green car that was stopped in the turn-lane. Then it accelerated and pulled into said turn lane behind the green car in order to avoid the oncoming red car. Not pictured here is the purple car that was making a right turn from the bottom of the diagram, that now occupied the right-hand lane the black-line car was trying to get into. He managed to slow down and then slip into said lane before anything bad happened. It was super-impressive.

In other news, I continued my ongoing campaign of ‘This might sound weird, but…’ interactions today. Today’s lucky partipant was this girl sitting on one of the benches on the ground floor of the Haley Center. I complimented her on her extremely lovely strawberry-red hair. She confusedly thanked me, and I left.

(For those who do not know of the ‘This might sound weird, but…’ campaign, feel free to ask. I just don’t want to bore the uninterested here.)

This might sound weird, but what the heck is the ‘this might sound weird’ campaign?

That is some fancy driving indeed. What you failed to mention is where you were during all of this. Or were you intentionally leaving out the fact that you were the black car? And also would anyone outside of Auburn recognize the street names of the intersection of said awesome driving?

Hey! Someone else who makes a point of complimenting strangers! I definitely believe people don’t get told enough how much they’re awesome, so I make a point of it. :)

This is the intersection of East University Dr and Moores Mill Rd. Moores Mill is running up and down, and I’m at the top. Stopped at the light, ready to cross the intersection to cross I-85 to go home.

The ‘This might sound weird, but…’ campaign is my sort-of-creepy, sort-of-encouraging thing where I go out of my way to compliment random people. Hair, shirts, clothes of other sorts… I basically just walk up to people and say, ‘This might sound weird, but… I like your X’.

It’s fun, and it helps me keep a look-out for the good in people. Of course I’m not sure if I’m coming across as a nice and complimentary guy, or some creepy stalker guy, but hey! Maybe I’m making someone’s day just a little bit brighter.

We should start a little club…

Actually, I just had this hilarious image that is extremely unlikely, but makes me laugh anyway… I’m imagining wandering around New York, and seeing some woman and randomly complimenting her, only to post about it that night and find out it was you.

    Man, that would be weird.

If I had truly understood its awesomeness I would have complimented a t-shirt I saw the other day: “By reading this, you’ve given me brief control of your mind.”

That would be awesome. If you see me, compliment me on my great new glasses!!

but are more than half of the “people” that you compliment, “women?”

    Hmm… Interesting question.

    I’d guess that I’m at something like 4:3 or 5:4 women:men? That’s a pretty rough estimate, but…
