For the most part. I'm a passive user. I read from Google Reader, so comments aren't in my impulse. If it helps, I've starred more entries from this blog than I have from any single other source. It's quite impressive.

I suppose I owe it to you, then, to try harder to have a response. I'll work on it.

Comments are tricky fish. Behold, the one entry of the string I just posted that I wanted comments on (Conclusion to an Introduction) got none.

And now that I'm back at home, my response...

I do read. I haven't had a lot to comment on, though your previous post on joint character sheets and seating arrangements was interesting.

One issue for me is there are so many interesting blogs, and I can only put so much time into writing comments. I too wish more folks commented on my blog, but I realize that just as I have limited time to respond to others, so do others have limited time to respond to me.

What I do perceive in the Forgeish blogosphere is that the blogs that do attract comments are attracting a generally good quality level of comments, and in a sense, I feel that might be more valuable than everyone getting a few comments per posting (and perhaps getting pretty mediocre comments).

Frank, thanks for that. Now I know what to tell people if they run into similar problems. Much appreciated.

I gotta agree with Harald. Long entries are hard to produce a cogent, concise response to in a comment box. If you've got a big essay, try breaking it up into bite-size bits and stringing it out over several days. You'll get 2 good results - you will ping people's feeds more regularly, resulting in more reads, and you'll get more comments and links.

Well, I just discovered the blog, and am testing the reply function.

One thing with blogs is that there are a shitload of them around, and that you "compete" with big and established names such as Bankuei, Lumpley, Ben Lehman, etc.

People will pay attention to those blogs first I reckon.
Maybe it'd be a good thing for "smaller" guys to band together, so as to be less time consuming to check out? I dunno.

I think your large articles keep people from chiming in to begin with. blogs are best served in mouthfuls, it seems.
