Two in a row, the world must be over

I’ll keep this short since I must shortly meet Claire and Kelly for dinner. Huzzah for post-work dinner!

Today was the fourth 12-hour shift I’ve worked in a row (not that I’m complaining, I signed up for it since I needed the money), and I thankfully have tomorrow off before going back for Easter Sunday.

It was, overall, a good day. I’m not actually sure I’ve worked a shift with Kelly despite us both having been employed by the same organization for nearly a year (I think she’s been here that long, at least), and it was rather fun.

This has been a fascinating job to work, and I’ve mostly enjoyed it on a number of levels, but I find myself more than a little excited by the prospect of leaving in less than two months. The open road calls, and I’m not sure I can take the most recent round of bureaucratic politics and muscle flexing. My fascination with organizations is borne out in being stuck inside one. It’s very interesting to find myself nodding and saying to myself “aha, this is something they’re doing terribly, and here’s a potential solution”. Though I doubt I’d be willing to say anything as an employee (a further interesting thing to recognize).

Which reminds me that I need to make a post soon about said roadtrip. Because, seriously, when you’re driving a total of 10,000 miles (gas prices, please stop rising), you can visit so many cool people. So if you’re in the US or Canada, well, let this serve as a notice that I would rather enjoy putting you on the list of stops…

We’re up here in the twin cities in Minnesota. Know anybody else in the area?

I should inform you that I am making plans to leave for Alabama for the end of May, due to stuff going on with my mom, and that, further, I have broken up with my boyfriend and moved out of the house, and now no longer have a place to put you up (though, my current roommates would probably be amenable.)

So wheee, head’s up. May prior to May 15 is still good.

I am, in fact, already planning on being in Minneapolis on this trip. Probably near the very end of June or so.

First, inadequate internet hugs from me. Hopefully we’ll be able to meet up so I can deliver them in person.

I actually have alternative crash-space in the area, so no worries about putting me up. The only worry at the moment is the dates. I know I’ll be heading out your way sometime in early/mid-May, but I don’t yet know precisely when. So while I’ll probably be in town around the 16th, I don’t know if it’ll be before or after.

If it is after then I suppose we’ll just have to catch up when I get back into the area at the end of my trip or something.

Fair enough. I reckon we should just keep each other apprised of plans as they change and evolve. It’ll be awesome to see you if it works out.

It’s amusing to me how th’ ‘nternet’s social space maps onto rl gatherings. As I write this–intrusion?, interjection?!, exclamation!?: ejaculation!–into an ongoing tete-a-tete (or at least that’s the analogous situation in rl) I am, analogously writing, eavesdropping. Now what makes this interesting to me is that Thomas was in the kitchen, which is to say right behind me, watching as I was eavesdropping. I don’t know that he was eavesdropping on me eavesdropping on him and you, but isn’t it amusing to consider the possibility? What if our house had a web camera, and you Cera were to eavesdrop on me noticing Thomas was eavesdropping on me eavesdropping on him and you?

(This situation makes me think the Interwog’s interactions might model or be modeled by a good time travel story.)

Oh god, the meta eavesdropping! I concur with you, it is quite interesting.

In other news, I was given a stationary set for Easter. I’ve no one to write to. Would you be so kind as to email me a snail mail address to mufary@gmail.com?
